|The film, an adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s famous short story, obtained fame in its own
right and was recognised at a number of international film events, including awards at the
1960 Cannes Film Festival and London Film Festival. Gurov and Anna Sergeyevna meet in
Yalta, a popular resort in the Crimea where they spend their vacation. They are both
unhappy in their marriages, and both of them have come to Yalta without their spouses. A
romance between them soon blooms into an affair.
